Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) — The custom of using blueberries in the area of Mt Paektu has recently been registered as a part of the national intangible cultural heritage.
The blueberries are one of the famous specialties of the DPRK.
The blueberries grow thickly in the high area of Mt Paektu and mountainous areas including the Paekmu Plateau.
Blueberries have lots of physiological activators. Other fruits have no such substances or little ones. The blueberry has high medicinal properties.
According to experts, this plant is effective in preventing senescence, enhancing memory and treating cataract, night blindness and other diseases.
It promotes metabolic process in the human body, enhances organism resistance and is also good for the prevention and treatment of intestinal diseases.
Thanks to the pharmacological action of blueberries, the Korean people make various kinds of foodstuffs such as sweet jelly and juice to widely use them as their diet.
The Paektusan Blueberry Processing Factory and the Samjiyon Blueberry Drink Factory produce various kinds of processed blueberry products and send them to commercial service networks.
