Pyongyang, April 2 (KCNA) — Scientific research units in the DPRK commit themselves to major projects for economic development, according to Rodong Sinmun.

The State Academy of Sciences is directing all efforts to solve pending problems in the country’s development of science, technology and economy. In particular, it concentrates its force and means on the research to solve the energy problem. It keeps on doing research into further perfecting the paper-making method and technology based on locally-available raw materials and makes preparations for expanding the successes made in the development of Korean-style forced airflow fine coal gasification technology.

Over 450 members of the scientific farming promotion team are now active in different parts of the country to give scientific guidance for this year’s farming while raising the regeneration rate of wheat and barley.

The Academy of Agricultural Science is conducting researches into breeding seeds that can produce a good crop in a stable way despite unfavorable weather conditions and developing labor-saving and cost-saving agricultural scientific and technological products. After finishing the production of seed-covering material “Phungnyonmo-1” with effectiveness and superiority proven in the past as well as bacterial fertilizer effective for land improvement, it has taken measures to send them to farms.

Scientists of the Academy of Light Industry under the Ministry of Light Industry are bringing about good results in the research project of great significance in implementing the decisions of the Ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
