Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) — Leading newspapers of the DPRK on Saturday dedicate editorials to the Tree-planting Day.
Given the fact that socialist construction has definitely entered the phase of comprehensive development, the issue of properly taking care of mountains covering a large area of the land is an essential undertaking not only for minimizing natural disasters but also for developing the economy and improving the people’s living standards, says Rodong Sinmun in an editorial.
This is the first year of implementing the decisions of the Ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and, at the same time, the first year of the second forest restoration work, the editorial says, and goes on:
Timber is needed for accelerating the building of modern factories and cities and the regional and rural construction and for producing much more coal and ore at coal and ore mines, and the rural economy also requires many trees for its development.
In order to fully solve the problems arising in the forest transformation, including finishing the tree planting in the treeless places in mountains and raw material bases of regional-industry sector during the new five-year plan, it is necessary to bring about innovations in this spring tree-planting campaign.
Only when all mountains are made profitable through afforestation, can the people’s life be more abundant and the national power be increased to the maximum.
Forest is a precious asset of the country and a wealth to be handed down to posterity.
Minju Joson in an editorial calls upon all officials and working people to turn out in the spring tree-planting campaign and contribute to making the mountains of the country with green woods through their patriotic, sincere sweat and efforts.
